The Dog Days of Winter

Once February rolls around, my patience with winter tends to wear thin. This feeling has recently been compounded by the weather growing colder and Chasen beginning his 6 week rotation away from Philly. I've been trying to do little things to create excitement in my weeks and remind me that in a mere 2 months, Chasen will be back home at night, and the Spring sunshine will bring longer days and milder weather.

On Friday, I was glad to be able to have dinner with friends downtown for Restaurant Week even though Chase was away on a trip.  The menu at Seafood Unlimited featured 4 courses, and my main entree was a melt-in your mouth sea bass (post-wisdom teeth surgery friendly).  We hit up a bar after dinner to extend the night, and it was fun to be downtown in the midst of all the restaurant week excitement.

I was lucky enough to get to the spa on Saturday for a hot stone massage that Chasen booked for me as an early Valentine's gift, and it was just as wonderful as I thought it would be! I had never had a hot stone massage, but the stones are used as an extension of the hands during the massage, and the heat feels divine mixed with the cool in the oils. We also saved $50 using an online Yelp coupon--which I highly recommend if you ever get an expensive spa treatment.

I had some homemade vegetable soup with turkey for dinner tonight, and a simple grilled cheese sandwich that tastes anything but simple. I love putting goat cheese on everything, and when mixed with the melty sliced cheddar on this whole grain toast, the goat cheese provides a creamy consistency that melds with the bread. Yum. Purple flowers from Trader Joe's also help me to remember the beauty that exists beyond the barren winter presently outside.  Whatever works!

Milkshakes, Percocets and Snow

Chase and I both took work off on Friday so I could get my wisdom teeth out. The surgery itself was really quick on Friday morning, and we spent the rest of the day napping, watching movies and taking drugs (me). Even though I was in a lot of pain, we managed to have a fun day together snuggled up on the couch with the kitties.

Chase took this pathetic picture of me after he got me settled on the couch when I was still feeling the effects of the sedation.  We had a good laugh about it today.

It snowed on Saturday morning, so we hunkered down for day 2, and I ate lots of delicious soft foods.

On behalf of this boring blog post due to being laid up all weekend, I'm including some classic cat humor featuring Linus below. Olive was a bit camera shy this weekend.

He is normally more skilled at catching his balls and mice, but I think the camera gave him cold paws.

Jerry and Leo

I had a fabulous weekend! On Saturday night, Chase and I headed to the Kimmel Center in Center City to see Jerry Seinfeld perform live. Even though our seats were so high up we both felt dizzy at times, just being able to be in the same room and hear Jerry live was well worth the ticket price. He was hilarious, and when it was over I wished he would do an encore (or just hang out me in my real life).

A shot that shows the great distance between us and the stage. That chandelier was at eye level.

On Sunday we headed to NY to meet Leo. He was the cutest little thing and slept most of the day away. He was also surprisingly tolerant at being passed around between 6 people. I can't wait to see how much he grows the next time I see him!

New Year, New Nephew!

I have been pretty sick for the past week or so and have neglected to blog about it, but on the night we were set to fly back from California, baby Leo entered the world!  We have yet to meet him, but we plan to visit this weekend.  Until then, pictures of the little guy will have to do.

I love this one!  He looks like a little pea in a pod.

Sunday can't come soon enough!
